Baking with essential oils 

Baking with essentials can be so much fun, but here are a few tips for how to do it effectively. 



Baking with Oils | The Basics 

Pre Baking 

Add essential oils alongside spices and use larger amounts since the can evaporate the oils. 

Post Baking 

Add essential oils to icings, frostings, ganache, fudge, toffee or marshmallows once removed from the heat source. 


Baking with Oils | The Flavors 


Hot, Spicy, and Sweet oils can be used to add to: candies, pies, cookies, cakes, teas, dressings, and marinades. 


Floral Oils 

Light, Powdery, and Sweet oils can be used to add to: icings, frostings, cakes, cookies, and teas. 


Baking With Oils | How Much 



Toothpick Method 
Dips a clean toothpick into the oil & swirl in to the mix. Taste test before adding more. 
For strong oils like cinnamon. 


One Drop 
Adding a single drop in a full size recipe can be plenty. 
For mild oils like lemon. 


Several Drops 
Add to a clean spoon for extract amounts and stir in. 
For large batches & pre-baking. 


Cake Tips & Tricks 


Pre-baking
Add 5-8 drops to batter as the  heat will effect the essential oils. 

Add to Frosting
Add 3-5 drops of oil to the frosting for a light flavoring. 


Add to Sugar 
Add 3-4 drops to 1/4 cup sugar and sprinkle lightly over the cake, immediately after baking. 


Add to Mousse or Curd Layers 
Add 3-4 drops to non-cake layers for a fun twist.

Sugar Cookie Tips & Tricks  

Add to Dough 
Add 4-6 drops citrus oil to the dough for a light  flavoring.


Add to Icing 
Add 3-4 drops to decorating icing for an added burst of flavor 


Spice 
Use less when using spice oils, about 1-2 drops.
