Our family recently went on a camping trip, and I wanted to share some of the camping essentials I love to bring with us on trips like this (we take a lot of RV trips).
Digestion
We all know that when camping, we tend to have a different diet and eat foods that we wouldn’t normally eat. For this reason, I like to make sure I have my favorite doTERRA digestive supplements on hand.
DigestTab
The DigestTabs are convenient chewable tablets that help to reduce occasional stomach upset, indigestion, and heartburn. They can also help reduce belching and bloating.
TerraZyme
TerraZyme is a digestive enzyme. Digestive enzymes are necessary for digesting food nutrients and then converting the nutrients to energy in cells. Enzymes also help with tissue growth and repair. This supplement is going to help your body effectively digest all the camping foods you don’t normally eat and reduce the unwanted upset stomach that can often accompany eating foods our bodies are not used to.
Ginger Drops
These are a convenient and yummy way to reduce occasional feelings of nausea, support healthy digestion, and ease stomach discomfort and indigestion.
DigestZen
DigestZen is great to have on hand when stomach upset occurs and is safe and effective. Internal use of Digestzen is a healthy, natural, and gentle way to soothe an upset stomach or maintain a healthy digestive system.
Peppermint
Peppermint oil helps alleviate occasional stomach upset and promotes healthy respiratory function when taken internally. Peppermint is also excellent at reducing occasional hot flashes and can be used in combination with Lavender and Lemon for seasonal support. I also like adding this to my water with Lemon essential oil. You can also make a cooling spray with Peppermint – add water and about 10 drops of Peppermint oil to a spray bottle and then pack in your hiking bag to use when you are feeling overheated.
Bug Repellant
Bug repellant is super important for camping trips, but the store-bought stuff is full of toxins. Below you will find what our family uses to repel bugs.
TerraShield
TerraShield provides the best defense for protection from the outdoors. TerraShield Outdoor Blend contains a blend of powerful essentials oils and other plant oils known to provide natural outdoor protection safely (NO DEET). So, ditch those over-the-counter bug repellents and use this instead. TerraShield can also be used on animals. I recommend spraying yourself, your tent (if you are tent camping), and your bags with TerraShield. You can make your own spray by adding water and TerraShield oil to a spray bottle or you can use the pre-diluted spray from doTERRA.
Citronella
With powerful pest repellent benefits, Citronella oil keeps creepy crawlers out of the house and off your skin and clothing. It is an ideal companion for camping, hiking, and trips to the great outdoors. The oil works by masking the human fragrances that insects find appealing. Use this together with TerraShield for a powerful insect repellant.
Sleeping
Camping can be rough on the body and you are going to want to make sure you are well rested.
Serenity Softgels
Often it can be hard getting to sleep or staying asleep while camping. Serenity capsules promotes relaxation and sleep without the hangover that can come with taking sleeping medicine.
Vetiver
Vetiver has a calming aroma that is grounding and can help kids and adults relax at the end of a fun filled day of camping activities. It can also be applied to the bottoms of the feet for more of a relaxing effect.
Diffusing
Diffusing essential oils on-the-go can be beneficial to the whole family, especially when camping.
Bubble Diffuser
This cordless motion activated diffuser is perfect for a camping trip. Leave it in the RV in a high traffic area to expose the whole family to the effects of whatever oil you are diffusing or put it in the RV bathroom to keep it smelling fresh. Leave it on a picnic table at your campsite to diffuse TerraShield or Citronella while your family eats or decompresses from the day.
Roam or Pilot Diffusers
These are both convenient on the go diffusers that can be very beneficial while camping. Both diffusers are rechargeable and portable, and can be used without the need for electricity, just charge them up before your camping trip. The Pilot diffuser comes with a USB charger, so it can be charged in the car, on the go.
Adpativ
Adaptiv is doTERRA’s calming blend. After a day spent running and playing this is great to use on kids and adults. You can diffuse it for a tranquil effect on the whole family or apply it topically for calming and relaxing the body.
Sore Muscles
You are bound to experience some sore muscles or tired feet while camping make sure you have Deep Blue with you.
Deep Blue Stick
The Deep Blue Stick is a convenient way to soothe achy muscles or feet after a long day activity. You can also take the Deep Blue Rub to use for the same purpose, but I like the stick best because it is less messy and also contains Copaiba.
First Aid
Essential items I like to keep on hand in my first-aid kit.
Correct-X
doTERRA Correct-X is a multi-purpose, natural ointment that helps soothe skin and enhance the natural process of skin returning to a healthy state after being distressed. We use this on cracked skin, cuts, or scrapes, and I have even used in on my dog when he was suffering from a hurt toenail.
Past Tense
Exposure to the elements or long days in the sun can lead to head tension – Past Tense is the oil you are going to want to have on hand when this occurs. Apply it to the back of the neck or the temples for a soothing aroma.
Lemon
Lemon essential oil is great for adding to water for flavor, but it can also be used to get sticky residue off hands or camping gear.
Tea Tree
Tea Tree oils is used on occasional skin irritations to soothe the skin and diffusing Tea Tree essential oil will help purify and freshen the air. Tea Tree is also excellent at cleansing wounds and can be used for bacterial support.
Lavender
Whether you are trying to soothe skin irritations or merely nourish delicate skin, there are many uses of Lavender essential oil for skin. Lavender is excellent for seasonal support in combination with Peppermint and Lemon. Also, excellent at helping your body unwind at night under the stars. Burn yourself roasting marshmallows? Lavender is great for soothing burns. Too many itchy bug bites? Rub a little Lavender on them. Lavender is often referred to as the Swiss Army Knife of essential oils and for good reason.
Frankincense
When in doubt, use Frankincense. Much like Lavender, Frankincense has so many uses and benefits. There is a recipe below for an after-sun spray, but you can also just add Lavender and Frankincense to a spray bottle for a quick after sun spray. This is one of my favorite oils and I use it for everything from head tension to any skin issues.
TriEase
TriEase Softgels were developed to protect against seasonal and environmental elements and to promote a healthy respiratory system.
Peppermint Beadlets
These are great to use for an energy boost or a quick way to freshen breath while on the go.
On Guard Concentrate Cleaner
Since the majority of our camping trips are taken in an RV we have access to running water and use this to clean dishes. It can also be diluted with water in a spray bottle and used to clean camping gear before packing up to go home.
On Guard Toothpaste
Even if you are backcountry camping you are going to want to brush your teeth, so don’t forget your On Guard toothpaste.
doTERRA Shampoo and Conditioner
As I mentioned we typically take our RV on camping trips, but many campsites have showers. If you are the kind of camper that likes to wash your hair, I recommend taking doTERRA’s travel sized shampoo and conditioner, it comes in clear pouch that is convenient for traveling.
On Guard
You can take your full size On Guard oil, or you can take On Guard Touch. On Guard Touch can be used by adults and children – it is also pre-diluted. On Guard Touch can be applied topically to the chest and bottoms of feet when seasonal threats are high and to experience its energizing, uplifting aroma. Use this pre-diluted blend for immune support.
Stronger
Stronger is part of doTERRA’s Kids Collection of oils. It has similar properties to On Guard, but has a different aroma and allows kids to be in charge of applying the oil.
Breathe
doTERRA Breathe maintains feelings of clear airways and easy breathing while minimizing the effects of seasonal threats. Breathe can be applied topically to the chest, back, or bottom of feet, or diffused at nighttime to calm the senses and promote a restful sleep. This is great to have on a camping trip in case anyone suffers from stuffiness, but it is also great to use on long hikes to open the airways/.
